ChatGPT, Abortion Abolitionist

Like its older brothers, the wheel and the printing press, the large language model (LLM) is one of those formative tools whose effects we have yet to fully imagine. It is to language what the printing press was to handwriting — lacking the sheer personality of a grandmother’s cursive, but churning the stuff out in bucketfuls with almost no effort. Like all tools, it must be used to take dominion over the earth.

ChatGPT, however, is far from the ideal dominion-taker. Its woke biases — although not as pronounced as, say, Copilot’s — nonetheless relegate it to the ranks of a B- or C-tier tool. It’s good for ideas, great for coding, but painfully obtuse on philosophical and sociocultural issues.

That said, it can follow a logical argument, more or less; and recent updates have rendered it less resistant to submitting to them — at least in my experience. The following glorious interaction with GPT-4o illustrates just how steamrollingly irresistible the logic of the abortion abolitionist position is. When the discussion has a structured progression and forced precision, even a woke LLM can’t get around it, weave it never so gelatinously. If only university students were this reasonable…
